As an example of what I am thinking. User has a mesh surface from a series of scans that shows some major undercutting of a dam. The mesh surface creates the full undercut. We would need to define a plane (opening of the undercut) to specify the area underneath that we wish to get the volume of. This could create a launch pad to perhaps adding some further structure analysis tools.
