Unfavorable Tee Bellows

A few years back we were running a program with York Region in Canada that had prospective pipelines for inspection being evaluated; one of the ideas floated back then was a flexible bellow that would be installed at unfavorable tees to “redirect” the PD tool in case it got stuck at unfavorable tees. I know that this did not move forward, but the client is trying to revive this idea. We recently went back working with York through a small engagement, but such a possible PD engagement will be commercially huge for us.

Questions:

  • Is the bellow an idea that can be revived?

  • If a bellow to be used under live condition is not feasible, would a 10” tap be enough to be used to redirect the tool at the unfavorable tee following a depressurization of the location?

  • What else can we tell York in terms of mitigation for unfavorable tees passage? They will be looking at quite high confidence level.
